When We Observe the Downfall of the Cult of Attacking Play, Let’s Savour Its Impact.

The Evolution of a Movement can be characterized by clear stages.

1. The Core Concept

An inspiring figure or leaders introduce a new and transcendent idea that promises a cure for disconnected individuals.

And so it goes. They’re getting ready to challenge the establishment in Australia. Tensions are rising. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. One individual, naked, shivering, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET displayed prominently as a statement, has stumbled into view and is removed in secrecy for a temporary assignment in county cricket.

Remember the beginning, when everything was fresh? The era of early Bazball, of uninhibited aggression.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Cult leaders promise a new start, hope for a future, support, redemption among a group with shared faith in the method.

What did it represent initially? A team united basking in glory. Ink. Muscles. Jawlines. Elite male wellness energy. Oh sure, The squad insist it’s not a real term, ironically because if it doesn’t exist, what exactly did I just watch?

But we know its essence. It’s Harry Brook executing a stroke so outrageous it’s beyond belief. It’s the thrill of the leader in his final form, a look that says: focused titan, rugged appearance, hair woven from beaver hide, truly contemporary you almost imagine to notice and see him playing on the ground bare-chested holding a fish.

It’s Ben Duckett continuing to have permission to talk in press conferences, appearing as a joyful figure in a waistcoat, uttering phrases such as we are actively deconstructing the orange. Certainly, the atmosphere, for a significant period, was entirely positive.

3. Expansion Period

Growth phase. Togetherness strengthened by rote learning of the cult’s slogans. These beliefs may seem irrational to prove commitment.

Does anyone else feel? The backlash, the fury, the feeling of letdown post-defeat seems too strong, overdone. The performance was poor on the field, as history shows. They were savaged in the field in a short span when tactics failed, manipulated by the opponent playing aggressively but smarter, adjusting to the pitch, a performer excelling with brilliance.

And now we have this the attacks, the anger, the perception of the team as a disgrace. The consensus is that losing isn’t enough, they need to lose righteously, to be scoured, obliterated, overwhelmed via traditional methods of Mitchell Starc’s movements, the conventional tactics of Scott Boland, out there celebrating successes humbly as if receiving a pleasant gift. What impact will this have?

4. External Conflict

Problems arise due to setbacks. But the cult cannot admit errors. It starts to feed on anger towards critics.

In truth, approaching the upcoming game, we have now reached a delicious point of tension in the journey of this movement. Victory is possible overseas with bold tactics. Probably, they could lose just as quickly. In case of defeat it appears we could be witnessing the death cult phase.

Prior to that, a couple of points to note regarding this. Previously, during the initial excitement, of passion and hope, I wrote an article labeling it a movement. People were very angry, which was helpful as it’s known the best way of proving that it’s not a closed group is should followers respond with anger rejecting criticism of the philosophy.

What has happened recently is just as interesting. Opposition to the style has now become the cult. We have a uniformly angry internet, disappointed commentators, images of frustrated followers overseas cheated out of three days of cricket, like a room full of people wanting fairness.

Conversely, there is the broader context of Australia’s more nuanced deep-seated frustration at these weirdly passive-aggressive buccaneers, stating, the methods you value and have honed as part of your identity culturally from us, well, it’s all a bit of a gag after all.

Here lies the truth. It’s all cults. The approach was a phenomenon since the sport itself is insular. In fact, the team has long been exclusive, a circle, an elite gathering, a closed world with two hundred years of opaque and ritualistic cult history supporting it. Historically, this was where entry is limited. It’s the imperial sport of the British, the original sports washers. And guess what, the country is a phenomenon, a system of unknown levels, a monarchy still exists.

The team have been enclosed within this world since childhood. In trying to escape from it, to create a less brutal environment, they are simply replicating their past, creating another a bubble, an exclusive group, but now with a modern squad and a mentor promoting authenticity as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.

Live where your feet are. Embrace challenges. Despite efforts, you remain stuck.

With this mind, now is the time to have some sympathy for the movement, to recognize its positives, that are numerous. How to define it? Promoting liberation. Challenging orthodoxies. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
