Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found a variety of interesting indie games. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across numerous challenges, battle boss fights and access a store to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Execute your jumps carefully, as a mistake forces starting over. Bounce using floating orbs to hurl the poop higher, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to open secret routes. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages as the action ramps up.

Visually, the demo shows off neon level designs and catchy music score. The simple graphics with shifting basic polygons may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though tough to name previous releases where you are a dung character, video games frequently featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from protagonist waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme appears heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible now on Steam, with the full game planned to launch on PC in the fall.
