The Prince of Wales Plans to Join UN Climate Conference in South America

The Prince of Wales will represent the COP30 climate summit in South America during November, according to the royal household.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a event ahead of the environmental conference, which is planned for in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.

Father and son were present at the Natural History Museum reception, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering arranged together with the United Kingdom administration.

Climate Leadership Dedication

The King has been a consistent supporter of protecting nature - and the Prince of Wales has inherited the mission, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be hosted in Rio before the COP summit.

Palace insiders have portrayed Prince William's attendance at the upcoming climate summit as stepping up an crucial position in "environmental negotiations".

Recent Engagements

The King and Prince of Wales, arriving together in the official car, were greeted participants featuring environmentalists, scientists, environmental activists, diplomats and politicians.

This engagement featured addresses in concert with French leader Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Ocean Finance Summit in Monaco in recent months.

Environmental Prize Connection

The COP30 summit will coincide with the William's personal sustainability recognition program, which will finish in Rio de Janeiro the day before he joins the COP summit on 6 November.

Recently the William referred to the prize competitors as "heroes of our time".

Royal Climate Legacy

The monarch has been a key figure at past COP meetings, giving the opening address in the United Arab Emirates for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the reminder: "Our responsibility is to protect the world we inhabit".

"I have spent a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the survival risks facing us over global warming, environmental shifts and species extinction," the sovereign addressed attendees.
