Football Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Contest
Despite registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards during the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Record Struggles for Jets Attack
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to score a possible victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach commented after the game.
